How to Wear Earrings with Stretched Earlobes

Stretched lobes? For those who have stretched earlobes from heavy earrings and looking to for a solution on how to continue wearing earrings with stretched ear lobes, this post is for you!

Back when I used to pierce ears, I would see MANY women with stretched earlobes. Stretched lobes can happen for a few different reasons:

1. Skin Elasticity. As your skin matures, it changes.

2. Wearing heaving earrings does play a factor in earring holes stretching. Also, wearing studs too tight can also stretch your lobes.

3. Trauma/Accident

Here are two solutions for stretched lobes:

Long-term solution:

The long term solution is getting them corrected by a doctor and they can do this a few different ways depending on the severity. The doctor will either stitch up the old hole or use dermal fillers. You can still get your ears re-pierced but it’s not recommended going in the same spot due to scar tissue and the risk of it happening again.

I’ve re-pierced many women who’ve had some type of correction. I would typically pierce right before the correction (a few millimeters away) so that way it doesn’t interfere with the repaired hole. If a piercer were to go behind the old hole, there’s a risk of it ripping into the old hole where the correction was.

Short-term Solution:

A short term solution is using something to support the weight the heavy earring so it doesn’t look like your lobe is sagging. When I started working in jewelry, I learned about a product called Lobe Wonder and women SWORE by them.

Lobe wonder is a patch that adheres to the skin and helps lift the weight of earrings off your lobes. You apply the patch to the back of your hole, put your earring in as normal, and poke the earring through the patch. Lobe Wonders are specifically meant for those who have stretched earlobes. You can find them on Amazon or Nordstrom. (Nordstrom is the only place I found that sells them in store. You have to ask for them at the jewelry counter. )

Another option is wearing a supportive earring backing like a comfort backing.
